According to the Bishop, all churches in the diocese will be closed to public worship during Holy Week and Easter. We will have "virtual services" online through facebook during Holy Week. Please read the bishop's comments below for further detail.

March 13, 2020

Dear Friends,

As of yesterday afternoon, Bishop Benfield made the decision to close the Episcopal churches in central Arkansas for Sunday worship, starting Sunday, March 15th and remaining closed through March 31st. There will be a re-evaluation made at that point to either remain closed or to reopen.

At St. Luke’s, besides cancelling Sunday worship services, we will also cancel activities throughout the week. This includes events like the Churchmen’s Breakfast, our Wednesday Simple Supper and Study, and the Vet’s dinner, I will be talking with Scott about options for the choir during this time. The church office will remain open and covered by Shirley Howard, Administrative Asst. during regular business hours, 9a.m. – 3:00pm. Office volunteers will need to stay home.

Communications will be maintained through our church office, church website, our two Facebook pages: St Luke’s Episcopal Church & Friends of St. Luke’s, and via email blast. You can watch these spaces for any updates. If you have a pastoral emergency please call me on my mobile: 501-940-9692.

This Sunday at 10:30a.m. there will be a “live Facebook” service of Morning Prayer, which will include the scripture readings from the Sunday lectionary, and a homily. This can be found on the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church Facebook page.

THE WAY OF LOVE: Materials can be found on the national Church website: www.theepiscopalchurch.org concerning the Way of Love study. You can watch the video on “Worship” and “Bless” which were the two words we were going to cover this Wednesday. I’ll try to send you some Word documents that have the appropriate worksheets so that we can continue you our study on an individual basis. Hopefully the church will reopen and we can conclude our study together in the same room!

In the meantime, look after yourselves and check up on one another, especially those in our parish who don’t need to risk going out and may need someone to drop food, toilet paper, medications, etc. and leave them on the front porch.  Stay in your prayers, reduce the amount of TV news you watch, use good common sense, and wash your hands. “Whenever I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” – Psalm56.3

In Christ’s Love,

Fr. Carey+
