Festival of the Senses Celebrates Mardi Gras - Jazz, Bebop, and Pancakes!

On Tuesday, March 5, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in North Little Rock will present the sixth event of Festival of the Senses’ 2018–19 season: a jazz and bebop concert by The Michael Bartlett Trio following a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper.

The concert, which will be held in the parish hall at 7:00 p.m. following the 6:00 p.m. supper, is free and open to the public. The pancake supper—including pancakes, bacon, sausage, all the fixings, and a coffee bar—requires a ticket  or a reservation.
Tickets, which can be reserved online at stlukesnlr@gmail.com, are $10 for adults, $5 for children 3 to 13, free for toddlers, and $20 for the whole family. They may be purchased at the church after Sunday services from February 17 until March 3. More information is available from Carmen Quinn, (501) 993-1883, or Ginna Simmons, (501) 519-3725.
St. Luke’s is located at 4106 JFK Boulevard in North Little Rock at the edge of Park Hill.
The Michael Bartlett TrioMichael Bartlett on guitar, Brian Hamby on organ, and Micah Boswell on drums—combines the talents of three versatile jazz musicians. Multi-instrumentalist Michael Bartlett can be heard on numerous recordings as a session player, and although he is often seen playing electric and upright bass, he is most at home behind a six-string archtop guitar. His 35-year professional career as a musician spans the U.S. and encompasses many musical genres.
Micah Boswell is a drummer who earned a performance degree from the Atlanta Institute of Music with an emphasis on jazz. Before moving to Little Rock, he performed as a studio musician in New Orleans for many recordings and albums over a period of years and toured both nationally and internationally.
Brian Hamby, a jazz and gospel organist with a degree in music composition from Lamar University, has performed throughout central Arkansas. Currently the organist for Greater Archview Baptist Church in Little Rock, he teaches privately at Rock City Music School. He has published instructional articles for the Hammond organ and writes analyses and reviews of jazz organ music.
A gift of the arts to the community to entertain, enlighten, and inspire, Festival of the Senses is the only year-long performing arts series of its kind in North Little Rock and one of the few in central Arkansas that is free and open to the public. Since its beginning in 2011, it has presented more than 55 performances by distinguished local and regional musicians, actors, and other artists in a wide range of styles and genres. Post-performance receptions in the parish hall offer an opportunity to meet and greet the performers over food and drink.
